Unique ID?? why?By: Amit | Thursday , 23 Jul '09 14:53:59 PM Reply | Forward 60% of Indian populations does not have any address proof nor they know their date of birth and are illiterate. On what basis UID shall be created?? bio-metrics may be the answer but is it feasible? Where this UID shall be of any use to this 60% population? Nilekani's credentials are fine but India can not create a database of it's citizens like European countries. Implementing this UID in all ID cards like driving licence or other will take another decade when you can get driving licence on any name in UP and Bihar.
Creating an Orwellian StateBy: S.Jain | Monday , 13 Jul '09 17:00:03 PM Reply | Forward The attention of the aam aadmi is being systematically diverted away from the true purpose of this UID exercise by a well-orchestrated ploy: of maintaining an exclusive focus of the UID project on its supposed main purpose of ensuring that government doles reach their intended and true beneficiaries. The real issue of creating a gargantuan Orwellian State is being actively kept hidden from the Indian citizen. There is, thus, a looming and, possibly, an imminent, threat that is ominously emerging for the aam aadmi from the openly-acknowledged corrupt system that rules the dispensations in our country. Once ready, UIDs would give this corrupt body enough sensitive data within its easy reach and control. If this corrupt system cannot be trusted to keep its hands off money meant for the poor what is the guarantee that this very system would not turn on the country’s citizens and harass/blackmail them by misusing this data?
ID card, a new Joke? a failure for sure, i can bet on my lifeBy: Vijay | Monday , 13 Jul '09 15:05:08 PM Reply | Forward A humble advice to Mr. Nandan Nilekani, can there be some introspection as what happened to the Election id cards initiated by T.N.Sheshan, why was it not implemented, What were the short comings.I appreciate the past success of Nilekani at Infosys, but completely confident this UIAI will never ever see the light of the day and forgotten after a couple of years.

Whenever new laws comes in there are new ways how to get corrupted. Well everyone knows that the congress is a corrupt govt, because congress is not in a position as to how to take action and save tax payers money.
ID card - IndiaBy: VG Prabhakar | Monday , 13 Jul '09 14:35:17 PM Reply | Forward Thankfully, the Govt finally decided to issue ID card to it's citizens and selected Mr. Nilekani, the right person for the job.I feel both FINGER PRINTS and IRIS SCANS should be included so that by cross checking, it will be easy to identify the duplicates. In some cases, lie when the person's finger prints are not clear and he is blind without iris, Dental scans and bone scans will be useful. All the best.
