‘Tharoor a Delhi Nair, Kerala Nairs ignored by Congress’

Thiruvananthapuram: Nair Service Society, an organisation of the upper-class Nair community in Kerala, said on Saturday that the Congress had neglected the community while allotting seats to various denominations in Kerala. Addressing the NSS budget session in Changanassery in central Kerala, its general secretar  ....Read more

All Hindus are sameBy: Col Sukumaran | Thursday , 10 Sep '09 18:20:46 PM Reply | Forward It is high time that we forgot the castes and started thinking about the wonderful relegion that we belong to.I am a nair by birth, but refuse to categorise myself so because this puts a serious restriction on learning the beauty of my relegion.I am sure, the deprivation undergone by others because of this caste business is a creation of those who wanted to accumulate and hoard all the privileges in the name of caste.Read Vedas, upanishads, sastras, gita,Bhagavatham and realize the depth of knowledge contained in these.hile it is the property and wealth of the whole humainity,Hindus must learn and teach others about the significance and relevance of these especially in the current situation.
CorrectBy: Manoj | Wednesday , 24 Jun '09 11:18:25 AM Reply | Forward To MaheshDude, if merit is the creteria , most of the ministers from Kerala will be like party workers only not ministers. Ministers are selected on the bisis of relegion and caste. This is a fact and you have to accpet that. NSS concern is genuine and they deserve a birth in the ministry. To your comment "It is high time they are shown the door" I challenge you to tell this to a face of nair instead of writing in internet comments.
NSS said the right thingBy: mfwbm | Monday , 22 Jun '09 13:35:12 PM Reply | Forward As for the comments below: in India unfortunately everything happens on the basis of caste/religion - be it seat allocation for state/central elections in ANY party, appointments to any govt. organizations or anything else. What NSS meant is a member of NSS or not and not exactly Delhi Nair vs Perunna Nair. I don't think Tharoor was involved with any NSS activities. Would any other community accept if any seat that is rightfully allocated to them is given to a person belonging to the same caste, but not belonging the same community? For eg. would SNDP or Muslim league accept a person belonging to the same caste but from some other organisation/party for a seat allocated for them?
Shameless NSS leadership!By: R Paniker | Sunday , 21 Jun '09 13:52:05 PM Reply | Forward I am scandalised by the NSS comment. Firstly, as a Nair myself I object to the right of someone to designate others as Delhi Nair or Perunna Nair. As Tharoor says, there can only be Indian Nairs. Secondly, a motley crowd of self-seeking communalists who proclaimed their notorious principle of 'equidistance' between the two fronts before the poll can have no claim to be 'rewarded' on the basis of community. In any case, an organisation with an annual budget of Rs.65 crores should learn not to be too presumptuous. The tragedy of Nairs is that instead of trying to remove social evils like increasing dowry demands and extravagance in weddings, their leadership is busy negotiating for petty power and influence. The ministers, diplomats and others nominated by NSS in the past have not covered themselves with glory! The leadership is yet to learn to play politics!
Assembly Seats not Monopoly of NairsBy: Mahesh.P.T. | Sunday , 21 Jun '09 13:30:59 PM Reply | Forward Seats should not be allocated on the basis of caste but on the basis of merit. The Nair community has long held centre stage in Kerala politics at the expense of other communities, and had cornered all the benefits, power and political clout. It is high time they are shown the door. At a time when attempts are being made to form a Broad Hindu Unity Forum to counter Muslim and Christian organizations , these utterances by the NSS chief reveal the mindset of the members of this organization. It is also wrong on the part of Shashi Tharoor to say that he is an Indian Nair. The only reason that people voted for him and he is now a Central Minister is due to his stature as an internationally known figure, and has nothing to do with his caste.
Silly statements by NSSBy: A.G.Nair | Sunday , 21 Jun '09 9:28:38 AM Reply | Forward The NSS leadership should show more maturity and refrain from making such silly statements. If they have a problem, they should discuss it with Tharoor and not make such public statements. No one has any doubts over Tharoor's credentials.
