The Chawla factor

Now that Navin Chawla and V.S. Sampat have assumed charge as India’s chief election commissioner and election commissioner respectively, I hope last year’s bitter controversy will be forgotten. All political parties should refrain from dragging the EC into political controversies. The BJP’s Aru  ....Read more

Rajiv Shukla 's farceBy: Dr.Meera | Sunday , 3 May '09 11:39:35 AM Reply | Forward I hate to be so direct but if Rajiv Shukla's own child was one of the hostage and if the life of his child was pitted against three terrorists merrily holed up in Indian jails and treated as VIP guests for years on end without any trail ,would he still use the same language?Would he agree to loose his child to protect such terrorists /Secondly , Does Mr.Shukla have any status to take on people like Jaitley ?
Chawla's FactorBy: subodh | Sunday , 3 May '09 2:12:37 AM Reply | Forward Rajeev Shukla has cheek to compare Navin Chawla with Krishnamurthi. Everybody knows the background of Chawla, his indictment by Shah Commission for his misuse of power during the emergency days. Justice Shah even said that he is not fit to hold any public post. In spite of that, he was appointed as election commissioner. Now he is talking about everybody respecting the Chawla as Election commissioner and reminds of the national interest. This reminds me of the hindi proverb, Cat eating 100 rats and going for haj,Regards,Subodh
Pot Calling the kettle Black! By: Shirish | Friday , 1 May '09 9:46:37 AM Reply | Forward Dear Mr Shukla,Your take on Kandhar amounts to pot calling the kettle black! It is your own party which needs to do a serious introspection on this issue and stop the web of lies. The duplicity and crass opportunism which congress has shown on this national tragedy called "Kandhar" will cost you dear in these polls. When the crisis was 'on', your party openly egged on the relatives of the hostages to stage tamasha in Delhi. Your party warned the govt that it (govt) will be held liable if even one passenger dies at Kandhar!! You declared that the only thing mattered was passenger safety, nothing else!! Today, you DONT EVEN MENTION THE PASSENGERS?? You say BJP made a mistake. May the country ask what mistake? The 170 passengers included several women and children.Should they all have been allowed to get blown up at Kandhar on 1st Jan morning (what IB intercepts had confirmed)?? Would the congress party then have celebrated?? Learn from your own home minister Chidambhram who is the only guy who had the courage among congressmen to admit "yes, it was an impossible situation. Innocent lives were at stake". Stop politicising this issue. It is only going to adversely affect your poll prospects which have already been marred by one Mr Q.
what to say?By: madhuri | Friday , 1 May '09 8:37:15 AM Reply | Forward how one can contradict own view in the same column? in frontfoot of 1/5/09 rajeev shukla mentions at one place that arun jaitley has no love lost for navin chawla, and misses no opportunity to attack him, disgracing the fact that in this media age, the EC can not take sides or harass any party. and in forth paragraph he mentions the Congress never made any attempt to question the conduct of the outgoing CEC N. Gopalaswamy throughout his term, though everyone knew of his closeness to BJP’s LK Advani. Congress knew that accusing Gopalaswamy for any lapses would be tantamount to denigrating the credibility of EC and harm national interest. by mentioning this is he not putting a question mark on Ex CEC? one more question, are we really living in an ideal situation where all independent institutions are working independently that to when the appointing authority to such highest posts is government, lead by political party, is it possible for even political parties to remain in an ideal condition?
