The fire this time

This time it is different. Forget Batla House, forget Malegaon, or Godhra or Ayodhya. Set aside the normal incivilities about minority community or Hindu terrorism. This is war. This is not a problem of the government or of a political party. It is an attack on the Indian state. It is an attack  ....Read more

ELOQUENCE CANNOT REPLACE STRONG ACTIONBy: BHARATMATAKIJAI | Friday , 28 Nov '08 13:49:45 PM Reply | Forward Easy to write all this from behind the ivory tower Desai! First and foremost we need a young leader capable of taking the bull by the horns! Look at the politicians that we elect ... buddas and buddis.. who have no nerve, only interested in filling their own coffers. Our lame-duck PM has come up with the standard excuse that our neighbour is involved! What a good excuse for mis-governance and lack of guts!! And how come that everytime we know that our neighbour is involved but we do nothing about it Mr. PM??? Enough is enough!! Our PM has to be sent back to where he belongs - behind a IMF Desk and the lady has to be sent back to where she came from Italy! Time we got some dynamic leadership that understands and knows how to deal with this modern from of warfare!! Lame-ducks will not do anymore.... WAKE UP !!
Preparedness to stop further such acts By: Mailin | Friday , 28 Nov '08 9:21:53 AM Reply | Forward When it comes to technology and competence to use the intelligence (forget generating intelligence) India is far behind. One thing is to get information (intelligence or incident reporting) authorities are clueless what to do about it (it seems). example: There a foreign ship in Indian seas few months back and when the local fishermen went to police the 'buck' was passed to coastal guards. And by the time authorities who could act came to know about it, it was too late the ships had vanished. This shows that our system/authorities are years behind to deal with current perpetrators/terrorist/criminals. Have you seen the rifle used by constable (ancient) and ability of them to use it (anybody's guess). The people in the authorities are dedicated just by the fact that they are working for those departments. It is our government ability to up skill them, better remunerate them is the obstacle to their performance.Government(politicians) should pull-up socks and work for the COUNTRY
The fire this timeBy: Chary | Friday , 28 Nov '08 8:02:44 AM Reply | Forward Instead of penning this vacuous rubbish Desai would do well to advise his friend in Delhi to run a strong and clean Government. When you have a weak PM and a mornic fop as HM and a party leader who is interested in handing over India to her son all tyhe sacrifices of MEN like Kharkare and Kamte is such a waste. Desai need not feel ashamed . even those who should act --in Delhi or Mumbai-are just full of words which mean nothing!
Holy Pontifications of the Lord!By: A Gokak | Friday , 28 Nov '08 6:55:37 AM Reply | Forward National dialogue in the times of Madam at the helm and quislings in power? So much piffle and verbal sophistry. Is the writer aware of the numbers of Indians killed by the terrorists in the last 2-3 days, and also in the last 3 decades while the world watched and took sides, using similar detached ponificating verbal sophistry over the heads of third world savages? All it proves is that for the writer, like for the rest of the world, Indian blood is cheaper than water, as compared to the foreigners' -- even the colonisers-- who reduced India to the poorest from the richest nation on earth in the matter of less than a century! Stick to your cushy Manor, Meghnad!

Root causesBy: punk | Friday , 28 Nov '08 5:48:21 AM Reply | Forward More hope than Substance. We have umpteen 9/11s in this countryfro last 15 years and every time the journos say this is the time to correct the situation. The rhino skinned politicos and an equally thick skinned people weep for a while and get on with what they know best...Factionalism, minority pampering, caste based pamepering et el.If at all India is ever to improve, it has to eradicate caste and religion from the school admission forms. It has to dissolve all the reservations based on caste and religion. If at all the govt need to give let these be hard cash. Do not undermine the institutions with fractionalism of caste and religion. Will it ever happen? I am 35 and probably will leave another 40 years. Can the people discard caste and religion and start behaving as equals? My last 35 years says otherwise
Absolutely RightBy: Sushant | Friday , 28 Nov '08 16:07:16 PM Reply | Forward I fully agree with you. Caste and religious bigotry are two things that are still holding back India. I am 35 too and I houpe this will change but I doubt it.
indiaBy: gerry | Friday , 28 Nov '08 2:27:04 AM Reply | Forward now the people of india and the people from the rest of the world are more aware about the dangeres of this kind of terror and maybe will co-operate with those who is fighting against.
