Why primary education should be the Government’s primary concern

Last week, while the Prime Minister and Sonia Gandhi were choosing ministers for the new government, I read a paragraph in The Economist that summed up in a few short sentences the enormity of India’s problems. It said, “About 27 million Indians will be born this year. Unless things improve, al  ....Read more

richest indians poorest educationBy: suryaprakash | Monday , 22 Jun '09 13:06:05 PM Reply | Forward Indian, businessmen are popular all over the WORLD in terms of their flamboyant life style and rich wealth. On,Forbes richest billioneersn list in the world, there a40 indians. Out 10 richest peop, there are 4 people, starts from lakshminivas, mukesh and anil, and k.p.singh, thanks to pv narsimharao liberalisation policies, there ,no single on forbes list from our neibhouring countries except china. To get good education we,requires infrastructure and funds.as tavleen singh noticed in rajasthan, private and governament participation in primary education is result oriented.my intention it is the right time to bring such policies where, corporates are involved mandaterly in primary education.india'....future is our children education.we have vast human resourses,by this unemployment can be solved.it is the right time for our prime minister to take a srong deccission, in involving of corporates. unless, untill,we caun't provide good education to our children india future will be in deppressive.
School education should be Indian's top priorityBy: Abhijit | Tuesday , 2 Jun '09 20:11:12 PM Reply | Forward You can get a nice and detail picture regarding the same issue in Nature, one of the most reputed science journal:http://www.nature.com/news/2009/090419/full/458956a.htmland in this nicely written blog (with references)http://jaychatterjee.blogspot.com/2009/04/primary-and-secondary-education-reform.html
Universal and quality school education is the very basic to build our countryBy: Jay | Tuesday , 2 Jun '09 19:56:04 PM Reply | Forward We, the general educated Indians are hyper obsessed with higher education and research. In reality we ourselves do not allow any meaningful change in government sponsored primary school and secondary school education system. We forget that private schools are nothing but money making machines for some shrewd businessman and have almost no accountability towards real education or towards grooming future citizens of the country. Political recruitment at every level, from primary school teacher to Vice Chancellor of a University has ruined Indian education to its core. Quality of higher education and research is going downhill and character of the country (via its citizens and future citizens) were never built. It’s not surprising to witness all round corruption in Indian society today. We supply technical manpower world over not due to quality but due to huge availability and cheap cost.
Indian socio-political elites need poverty and illiteracy to survive and flourishBy: jatin | Tuesday , 2 Jun '09 5:08:54 AM Reply | Forward Our politicians and educated middle class people are excessively obsessed with higher education while are oblivious about grass-root level education for general people. Many of them do not like the idea to erase the education barrier between have and have-not. They fear that “lower” class people will not serve them, will not obey them anymore, may refuse to believe and act whatever they tell them- if they become educated! Such socio-political elites need poverty and illiteracy to survive and flourish in our 21st century hi-tech feudal society.
You cannot reform education without knowing what that meansBy: jay | Tuesday , 2 Jun '09 4:57:35 AM Reply | Forward Do our policy makers have any idea what “education” is? They do not understand that education does not mean buying degrees or enabling a person to learn the art to earn money but to enable him/her to dream to make this world a better place. We see huge uproar when previous government rightly wanted to introduce accountability in some elite institutes like IIM or IITs but we never see a fraction of that excitement among educated middle class people or our political masters to reform primary and secondary education although our primary and secondary education system, the backbone of our country, is in a pathetic shape. Our middle class people, who cannot afford to send their kids abroad (like our socio-political “elites”) but dream to have a better, more powerful and comfortable life for their kids (and to them through their kids) do not allow any meaningful reform of primary and secondary education since independence.
It’ll be very challenging to reform Indian education systemBy: Jay | Tuesday , 2 Jun '09 4:42:27 AM Reply | Forward I strongly believe that we must reform our primary school and secondary education first to get better quality scientist and other professionals. I know that it’s a long term process but it’s the only process that can give us a sustainable result. There is, was
Not only quantity but also quality needs to be improved urgentlyBy: Jay | Tuesday , 2 Jun '09 4:24:53 AM Reply | Forward It’s not only the quantity but quality that also needs to be improved urgently. Existing govt primary and secondary school infrastructure is pathetic and at the verge of collapse. Private schools and private tuition/coaching are mushrooming and also spreading even in smaller towns and rural areas to fill the supply and demand gap, without having any qualified teacher and infrastructure. Those are mainly interested to cheat general public in the name of English medium “education”. They teach how to get high marks mainly by selectively disclosing questions (in form of private tuition and coaching) to those how can pay. Such education can only produce clerks and BPO employees, but can never groom world class scientist and technocrats. Every field of education and research is now overwhelmingly dominated by mediocre people. It’s going on since long and as a result the quality of Indian research and higher education is going down since independence despite of higher funding.
Promote e learning By: Dr.G.Srinivasan | Monday , 1 Jun '09 10:14:20 AM Reply | Forward Education should be the concern of the government primary as well as higher eduction. For a population which is going to be huge the only way will be to use IT to the fullest extent."The hole in the wall"is a good example of self learning !!!! We should create virtual class rooms taught by the best in the field.Students can learn at their own pace !!!!Government should think of this seriously
hogwash!!By: anand desai | Sunday , 31 May '09 16:26:40 PM Reply | Forward Dear Mrs. Singh, do you truly believe this guys are going to do some thing exceptional, i do not think so?? soon in-fighting will start, example when mr. kamal nath and Mr. anand sharma were being interevied on a news channel, when mr. sharma was speaking, mr. nath was not willing to lend respect to what mr. sharma was saying, this kind of small things go a long way in telling how the internal politics are going on in Congress party, i do not think that this can be controlled by mrs. gandhi or Master Rahul and soon the oldies who have been left out will start speaking their mind(like arjun singh)and so the player like jairam ramesh, ahmed patel, digi raja will soon be sharpening their knives and if they loose their own importance then another fight, so the dominoes or the cards are going to go down it is but a matter of time, and i do not think that rahul is man enough to control them, or for that matter the false power which comes from a false democratic party goes the wrong way?
Why Primary Education ........govt's concern.By: Muraleedharan | Sunday , 31 May '09 14:01:52 PM Reply | Forward It is not in the best interest of these politicians to educate the masses. Once the poor of the country gets a little education they will realize the hollowness of all the promises made by the netas for getting elected! An educated mass will expect good Governance from the elected Government which would be against the interest of the majority of the elected political leaders and their coterie of bureaucrats. If some good basic edcuation is provided to the masses, the netas will no longer be able to play the religion/class games to win votes.Another malady of our society is the caste based reservation system. It is high time the govt ban this and make merit and economic status as the bench mark for reservation!!!
