'World-class stations just an idea, can't be implemented'

New Delhia: Lalu Prasad, who as Railway Minister had been claiming to upgrade 26 railway stations to world-class level, on Tuesday set the cat among pigeons by quipping that it was just an "idea" which cannot be implemented. His comments, made in his typical style during a debate on Railway Budget in the L  ....Read more

WORLD CLASS STNSBy: kim | Tuesday , 14 Jul '09 9:56:01 AM Reply | Forward ATLEAST ONCE LALOO IS CORRECT,FORGET WORLD CLASS FACILITY AS EIGHTY PERCENT PEOPLE ARE POOR,ONLY IF YOU DONT ALLOW THEM IN SUCH STATIONS AND ONLY ALLOW FILTHY RICH IN THERE.WHAT IS THE NEED OF SUCH WASTE OF MONEY,THE DESTRUCTIVE IDEOLOGY MAMTA SHOULD PUT THIS MONEY FOR MAKING IR WORLD CLASS SERVICE.
For Mr. Nagendra Yadava By: Ram Nath Babu | Thursday , 9 Jul '09 16:35:58 PM Reply | Forward But before telling this truth today in Parliament, Lalu lied to the nation with false promise yesteryears. Should we apprefiate that too?
Dont believe politiciansBy: Sahadevan | Wednesday , 8 Jul '09 10:24:24 AM Reply | Forward A few years back it was proposed to make Mumbai another Shangai. But Mumbai remains the same and will do so for the next 100 years and China will march ahead. That is the difference between Indian politicians and Chinese. Moral of the story: Dont believe what the politicians say. Just listen and forget it.
High bar for RailwaysBy: darvan | Wednesday , 8 Jul '09 9:57:31 AM Reply | Forward Railways being an emblem of India,is being trivialised by our elected leaders. The speaker of the house must pull his/her weight to silence all such balderdash.Railway bureaucrats/General mangers etc should be asked by the Minister to prepare a blueprint and then a hearing be conducted in the Parliament with these bureaucrats answering questions. Then the science behind Railway wellbeing would be better understood by all and sundry who always make Railways a domain of one state or the other.
World class stations with third class Indians?By: B S Kumar | Wednesday , 8 Jul '09 9:19:42 AM Reply | Forward This is never going to happen. Look at all the trains that run in South India, and you will see they are pretty clean and well maintained. But if a train runs anywhere in the North, particularly Bihar, it will be a total mess. For world class stations, India needs world class people. We cannot do it even if people of a few states don't have basic decency.
@ChetanBy: Tanuj | Wednesday , 8 Jul '09 8:09:07 AM Reply | Forward It looks we live in a country of people praising Capitalism and the Government aspiring to be a Socialist, which they have been trying for the last 60 years. Instead of praising the reforms in 1991, the FM in his budget peroration lauded the nationalisation of Banks by Indira Gandhi.
admission of truth by Lalu PrasadBy: Nagendra Yadava | Wednesday , 8 Jul '09 6:09:34 AM Reply | Forward I wonder whether Indian Parlianment and news media is nterestred in real debate and devlopment. Based on this report as well as following comparisions after presentation of Railaway Budget by Mamata Banerjee, all efforts are pointed to denigrating Lalu Prasad's integrity despite the fact that he was a successful Railway Minister. Same is happening in this report instead of appreciating the admission of the truth. Is not this every goverment proposes to reach new milestones every time it comes to power, but it never reaches there. Has this led to criticizing every minister, and government. It is beyond any sane mind, how in this case is Manmohan Singh responsible for prasing the Lalu Prasad for his success. As a reporter, and Parliamentarian, every one should have some conscience to discuss issues with honesty rather than trying to score brwonie points. In my mind, true Indians are the honest ones, and anyone who speaks truth should be appreciated.Jain Hind!Nagendra
Not world class, but WE NEED THOSE BUILT HONESTLY without corruption.By: Janaki | Wednesday , 8 Jul '09 2:43:14 AM Reply | Forward India does not need world class, best of the best railway stations. We have enough of other areas to spend wisely. I would like to humbly bring to attention that if we can JUST build our railway stations honestly- no corruption, substandard material or exploitation of poor labour- we will again have stations lasting at least a century if not centuries. Stations built in remote areas suffering extremes of hot weather and abrasion, still look lively and vibrant, though many were built half a century ago. The credit goes to honest people who built them, not to our ministers.
Upgrade of Indian RailwayBy: rakesh m | Tuesday , 7 Jul '09 21:33:23 PM Reply | Forward Tomorrow if for some reason Mamta Banerjee had to go out of the ministry, she will repeat the same what this "lalloo" said! That was only an idea, (only to fool the Indian public which is very easy) but not to implement! And with the same coin, if all the ministers, including the finance minister is forced out of the ministry for some reason, they will also come out with similar statements, that they were only make false promises, and that goes very well with the congress tradition of fooling the Indians, especially the Muslim community, which they have been doing ever since independence!
World Class StationsBy: Mike | Tuesday , 7 Jul '09 20:38:37 PM Reply | Forward In this case I agree with Laloo. Does Mamta Benarjee have any idea what World Class Station is? or she is just dreaming. Does she know how much disciplene is required by the people to maintain these stations. If anybody believes that Indian Population has any disciplene to maintain world class stations is naive. Who is going to enforece the disciplene, who is going to clean up after the Sandas on the tracks, who is going to remove animals, etc.etc.
