MUMBAI, May 11: Nagpur and Satara crowned themselves boys and girls champions in the Maharashtra State Inter-District Juniors Basketball Championships organised by the Bombay South-East District Association at the Mastan Talao Playground, this evening, beating Ahmednagar and Bombay Central District respectively in the finals, this evening.

Satara retaining the title, led 30-14 at half-time en route to a facile 61-33 victory. Nagpur's boys won a closer battle 74-60 after leading 35-31 at the interval.

Kaustubh Pandey (20) and Sanket Belpandey (10) starred for Nagpur while Harshal waged a lone battle for Ahmednagar with 22 points. Early play in the girls' title clash suggested a tight battle with Bombay Central's Sangeeta D'Silva finding the cage with regularity. Figueiredo sisters Lovita and Loveena created a buzz in the attack to put the rival citadel under pressure but as time wore on Bombay Central were found wanting in the fundamentals of the game.

Satara grabbed the iniative through senior international Arnika Gujar well supported by sister Mithila and international Pradnya Mane.

The MSBA, its office bearers, Bombay South-East District Association and Bombay YMCA presented Arnika a cheque of Rs 11,000 to help meet expenses incurred while joining the national team to the Bangkok Asian Senior Championships.
