Bhosle stars in Fatima HS win

MUMBAI, MAY 22: Two goals by Sumita Bhosle and one each by Varsha Kaple and Rohita Bengera enabled Fatima High School (Ambarnath) outplay Mary Immaculate 4-0 in the Sub-Junior girls (u-14) hockey league organised by the Bombay Women's Hockey Association at the St Andrew's High School Ground, Bandra.

In another match of the five-team league, Conossa Convent beat St Joseph's (Vikhroli) 3-0. Deepti Chauhan (2) and Sumila Pereira being the scorers.

KHAMBATTA SHOCKS TULSHAN: Vikram Khambatta upset Garware Club House mate Kamal Tulshan 3-1 in the CCI Open snooker tournament, today.

Potting with confidence, Khambatta won the first frame. Tulshan levelled but could not sustain the effort as Khambatta coasted to victory.

In another match, Chirag Ramakrishnan failed to find his form but peformed well enough to score a 3-0 win over Viresh Prabhu.

An absorbing tussle saw Denzil Oliver taken the distance by Devendra Shah. Denzil eventually won 3-2.

RAILWAY RECOVERY: A timely recovery enabled a lethargic Central Railway put it across Hooper's 76-63 in the Bombay YMCA Open basketball tournament being played at the Mastan Tank, this evening.

Hooper's, making a comeback after being in the wilderness for quite some time, ran Central Railway close in the first half.

Hooper's scored cleanly in the early moments while Central picked up rebounds.

Midway through the first session the scores were level 26-26 before railwayman Zafar Ansari took over.

Ansari excelled for the railwaymen to took a 37-33 lead at the interval.

On resumption, it was the six-foot-nine Fazil Shaikh to took the game by the scruff for Central Railway, scoring with consumate ease while notching 25 points. His teammate Salim Rirandaz chipped in with 12 points.

The top scorer, however, was Hooper's Kamlesh Naik topping the scorers' list with some brilliant baskets among his 29 points.
