Telco sales cross Rs 10,000 crore

Tata Engineering and Locomotive Company (Telco) has become the first company in the private corporate sector to cross the Rs 10,000 crore sales turnover mark during the year 1996-97. The company's total income rose 28.6 % to Rs 10,128 cr from Rs 7,850 cr.

LIC, GIC get more freedom to invest

The Union cabinet has significantly relaxed the investment norms for the Life Insurance Corporation (LIC) and General Insurance Corporation (GIC). The government has given them freedom to invest unlimited sums in non-scheduled and non-consortium investments.
