`Summer Bonanza', a special treat for kids

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE

MUMBAI, May 29: The `Summer Bonanza' presented by Amar Chitra Katha and the Indian Express has, judging from its response, been a success. As part of the bonanza, book-reading weeks along with mono-acting, colouring and quiz contests had been organised at 25 centres all over the city.

Children thronged the venues where they could pick up and read any Amar Chitra Katha title of their choice. The Quiz Contest held by Uncle Pai at the Patkar Hall on May 24, 1997 was also a well attended event. It was divided into junior and senior categories, where students answered questions on mythology. Shreekant Ramachandran of Modern English School, Chembur, was a clear winner from the start. The second and third prizes in the junior group were awarded to Rikta Mohan of Kendriya Vidyalaya, IIT Powai and Ajay Jayan of Vivek Vidyalaya, Goregaon, respectively. The contest for seniors (12-15 years) was won by Harjeet Singh of St Anne's High School, Malad. The second and third prizes in the senior group were awarded to Jindal Haria of Swami Vivekanand International School and Aditya Singh of Kendriya Vidyalaya, IIT Powai. The Bonanza concludes on May 31.
