Single window for exports soon: PM
Prime Minister I K Gujral yesterday made a series of announcements including setting up of a high-powered export promotion board. He also agreed to set up a Single Window Clearance system for Export Processing Zones in order to improve operational efficiency.

India has unilaterally declared all its chemical weapons holdings and threw them open to international inspection, but declared that it will not let its compliance of the Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC) compromise national security.

1:1 bonus from Reliance; manifesto promises 25% payout
Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL) has announced a liberal 1:1 bonus issue of shares. The announcement, which will have to be ratified at a special EGM of shareholders, lifted the Reliance scrip to a high of Rs 388 on the Bombay Stock Exchange before it finally closed at Rs 377.25 yesterday.

BoI net buoys 30% to Rs 360-cr
Bank of India has posted a 30.4% rise in its net profit for the financial year ended March 31, 1997. The net profit went up to Rs 360 crore from Rs 276 crore in the previous year. The bank's board has recommended a maiden dividend of Rs 1.50 per share of Rs 10 to the public on a pro-rate basis.

Tata Electric net trips 48% to Rs 230 crore
Tata Electric Companies (TEC) have registered a decline of 48% in net profit at Rs 229.77 crore during the year ended March 31, 1997 as compared to Rs 443.55 crore last year. The company has, however, maintained dividend at Rs 3.50 per share.

BetzDearborn Inc arm to set up 3rd hydrocarbon project
The Indian arm of US-based BetzDearborn Inc will soon set up a hydrocarbon process unit, its third in India. The new division is expected to be operational by July end and will offer speciality chemicals and service programmes to the oil refining and petrochemical industries to improve their efficiency.

Operating norms for combined turbine units altered wing...
The Central Electricity Authority (CEA) has announced changes in the operating norms of combined cycle combustion turbine generating power plants. The modifications will affect the calculation of working capital, plant load factor, auxiliary energy consumption and determination on heat rate.
