Mahesh Bhupathi made it a double success for India in mixed doubles, when he and Japanese Rika Hiraki defeated Cristo Van Renesberg (South Africa) and Venus Williams (US). Earlier, Leander Paes and Romanian Ruxandra Dragomir had entered the mixed doubles second round by beating Chris Wilkinson and Samantha Smith (Britain) 4-6, 6-3, 6-1.
