Quicktakes -- Seven die as bus rams into goods train
AGRA: Seven persons were killed and 25 injured when a bus rammed into a
goods train at a level crossing between Barhan and Chamrola railway stations
near here on yesterday morning. The bus, packed with passengers, was on its
way to Jalesar town from Agra when the accident occurred around 1000 hours.
Most of the dead were on a pilgrimage to a Muslim saint shrine in Jalesar
where a fair is held every Saturday.

AMRITSAR: A Central committee on scheduled castes, scheduled tribes and
backward classes consisting of eight cabinet ministers is being planned by
the central cabinet, the Union welfare minister, Balwant Singh Ramoowalia
said yesterday. A financial corporation for the benefit of the Dalits and
other backward classes to mark the 50th year of the country's independence
was also planned to be set up during the year, he said.
ED grills Jain
NEW DELHI: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) today interrogated media baron
Ashok Jain at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in
connection with alleged violation of the Foreign Exchange Regulation Act
(FERA), ED sources said. A team of senior ED officials questioned Jain for
about three hours in the private ward of the hospital. Scribe stabbed
RAJKOT: A scribe of a local eveninger, Desh Pardesh ni Aaj Kaal, Dilip
Rathod, was stabbed to death by some unidentified assailants at Vadia
village of Amreli district today. Rathod was believed to icurred the wrath
of some people when he reported the presence of a police officer at the
marriage of a criminals' son.
Hingis is champ
WIMBLEDON: Jana Novotna again couldn't hold a lead in the Wimbledon final
and Martina Hingis rallied to win in three sets today to become the youngest
champion this century. Meanwhile, Ramesh Krishnan and Jeremy Bates stormed
into the final of the over-35 event defeating Gary Donnell (US) and Danie
Visser (South Africa) in three sets.
