Short Corner -- Kanga League matches called off

MUMBAI, August 1: All the matches of the Dr HD Kanga cricket League scheduled for August 3 have been cancelled due to poor ground conditions. These matches will now be played on October 12.

Monsoon football-cricket tourney

St Peter's Youth Social Service, Bandra will organise a nine-a-side football cricket tournament from August 22 at the St Stanislaus High School grounds.Each team will have nine players, six men and three women. The ball is a football and the `bowling and batting' will be done with legs. Stopping the ball with hands and heading are permitted, but passing the ball and stumping have to be done with legs.

Mumbai University sports calender

The University of Mumbai sports calender for the year is as follows: Chess from August 15 (last date for receiving entry August 4), Aquatics from August 30 (August 5), Football from September 2 (August 11) and table tennis from September 12 (August 18).

Referees awarded for 1996-97

Walter Pereira of Income Tax has been given the BRA President award for national class for the year 1996-97. The other award winners are Saby D'Costa (Naval Dockyard) -- BC Pinto award for Class I, Manuel Pereira (Food Corporation of India) -- KT Vaidya award for Class II and Dhanraj More (Central Bank of India) -- JP D'Mello award for Class III.
