TUTICORIN, July 31: A driver, Sundararajan (25) of Salaipudur near Kayathar severed the head of his friend, S Mariappan (55) following a wordy quarrel between them. Both were drunk. While another man, Krishnan, tried to prevent the murderer from escaping into a coconut grove, his head too was chopped off. Later, the assailant escaped as Punithamuthu, a teacher tried to intercept and stop him. Sundararajan also attacked and killed a beggar. Police have nabbed the murderer and pickets have been posted in different corners of the village to prevent any more violence.
