Police foil ISI's plan to disrupt I-Day in Punjab

LUDHIANA, Aug 14: Police today claimed to have foiled an ISI-backed terrorists' plan to disrupt the golden jubilee Independence Day celebrations by arresting a UK-returned Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) terrorist.Punjab DGP P C Dogra told mediapersons here that Gurnam Singh, a BKI terrorist, was arrested on the Jalandhar by-pass road here last night and a large quantity of explosives was recovered from him. Dogra said Singh had returned recently to bring together ISI-trained terrorists from Pakistan and train them in handling explosives, fabrication of explosive devices, carry out terrorist activities in Punjab and outside, especially during Independence Day functions, and contact and motivate recruits. The DGP said 24 cakes of black RDX explosives, two electronic timers, non-electronic timers and other explosive material were recovered from the arrested terrorist. Investigations revealed that Singh was actively involved in the Khalistan movement in UK and other European countries for the last six to seven years, Dogra said. Singh was a top functionary and office bearer of BKI's Parmar faction and had received intensive training in fabrication of improvised explosive devices from Pakistan-based ISI experts, the DGP said.
