Ganpati mandal officers told to abide by norms

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE

PUNE, Aug 15: Police Commissioner A K Agarwal on Thursday asserted that office-bearers of Ganpati mandals will not be given a separate notice regarding restrictions proposed on the sizes of pandals erected on streets during the annual Ganesh festival.

He said the office-bearers were well aware of the set norms for the past several years. He was responding to the common demand from the mandal office-bearers that they would require at least six months notice vis-a-vis the restrictions on the pandal sizes.

Agarwal made it clear that the pandals should not obstruct the smooth movement of traffic on the city streets during the 10-day festival commencing on September 6. He sought co-operation of the mandals in implementation of norms on pandal sizes along with the `code of conduct'.
