SC order on Taurani bail today

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE

NOVEMBER 25: The Supreme Court order on the cancellation of anticipatory bail granted to Ramesh Taurani, an accused in the Gulshan Kumar murder case, is expected to be issued tomorrow. Arguments in the case were completed today after the Mumbai police moved the apex court.

Said Jt Commissioner (crime) Ranjit Singh Sharma, the arguments for cancellation of bail granted by the Bombay High Court on October 23, 1997 were heard by Justice Mukherjee and Justice Thomas. Appearing for the state government, advocates Kapil Sibal and Nargaokar argued that Taurani's custodial interrogation was necessary to solve the murder case, added Sharma.

Taurani was granted bail after public prosecutor Vijay Tulpule allegedly failed to protect the interest of the police department while arguing his bail application. While the police claimed that Tulpule did not inform the inquiry officer about the progress in the case, he maintained that he had sent specific message to the crime branch on developments in the case.
