Demand slump makes industry downbeat

ENS ECONOMIC BUREAU

NEW DELHI, DEC 23: According to a recent survey by the FICCI, industry's mood has become a lot more downbeat than it has been in the past few months.

While 75 per cent of respondents in FICCI's previous survey felt that the current downturn would last till Februrary 1998, most of them now feel the slump will stretch till at least June, 1998. Forty-five per cent of the corporates surveyed by FICCI feel that the current downturn will last for more than a year. The main reason for the increasing dismay is that 80 per cent of corporates now feel that the current slump is because of a severe shortage of demand.
