Sena threatens to boycott EC hearing

PRESS TRUST OF INDIA

NEW DELHI, Dec 23: The Shiv Sena today threatened to boycott Wednesday's hearing by the Election Commission on the issue of the party's organisational elections if Election Commissioner G V G Krishnamurty attended it.

Suresh Prabhu and Subhash Desai, representatives of the party, who attended the meeting of regional parties convened by the commission, told reporters at Nirvachan Sadan that they had given a memorandum to the Chief Election Commissioner, M S Gill, to this effect.

Although the commission had given Sena the December 24 deadline to hold organisation elections, the party held inner party polls on December 20 and unanimously "elected" party supremo Bal Thackeray as pramukh (president) for life.
