Parnita joint leader

MUMBAI, December 23: Chandigarh teenager Parnita Garewal and Urvashi Sethi (Delhi) shared the top position at the end of 18 holes of the 72-hole Ladies Western India Golf Championship, sponsored by the Western India Golf Association at the Bombay Presidency Golf Club course, today. Coming home with a card of 76, Parnita fired an eagle on the 452-yard 4th after three pars. However, she dropped shots on the 8th and 9th to be par 36 on the way out. She bogeyed the next three holes before stabilising her game only to falter on the 17th. Urvashi, on the other hand hit three birdies for her 37 but dropped five shots on her way back. Vandana Agarwal of Calcutta failed to impress. She could not recover in her round of 77 after a double-bogey on the 10th. But managed to bring her tally to three with a birdie on the 15th. Delhite Nonita Lal Quereshi was another disappointment, carding 85. Sonia Philip leads in the Bronze division (handicap of 19 and above) even after having a disastrous-return trip. Going four over on the 10th and a double bogey on the 11th. Shameen Botawala lags Sonia by six strokes.
