Bhalla springs an all-round act

Dec 29: Springfield has achieved an outstanding 163-run victory over Parle Tilak Vidyalaya (Marathi medium) in the final of the Khichadia cricket tournament at the Khar Gymkhana.

Batting first, Springfield had a bad start by losing four wickets for 52. But the fifth wicket partnership between Rohit Bhalla and Udey Karkera put on 191 runs in 31 overs. Bhalla scored 118 with 15 fours, while Karkera was unlucky to miss his century by three runs. He scored 97 with 12 fours and three sixes.

Springfield scored 271 for nine in 45 overs. Mandar Paranjpe, Tilak's wicket-keeper, took three catches and affected three stumpings. They then bowled out their opponents for a paltry 108 with Rohan Gawandalker contributing 39. Rohit Bhalla captured seven wickets for 18 runs from 11 overs.

Brief scores: Springfield 271 for 9 (Rohit Bhalla 118, Udey Karkera 97) bt Parle Tilak Vidyalaya 108 (Rohan Gawandalkar 39; Rohit Bhalla 7-18).

Indian Gym win

Indian gymkhana routed Wellingdon YMCA 50-2 in a mini boys Fr Agnel Open basketball tournament match at Vashi, today.

Prasad Temkar (12 points) and R Robin (10) led the scoring for Indian Gymkhana.

Indian Gymkhana also enjoyed success in the mini girls section, outplaying Abudhaya 37-12. Nirall Shah with eight points and Akruti with seven were the main scorers.
