Naidu to prove pen is mightier than speeches, dons editor's role

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
HYDERABAD, Dec 29: Andhra Pradesh chief minster and Telugu Desam Party (TDP) president N Chandrababu Naidu will don a new role -- editor of a fortnightly magazine -- from the second week of January, 1998.

.Telugu Desam, a Telugu fortnightly journal will be the organ of the TDP and will spread Naidu's message to the party cadres and focus on the achievements of the government. Party general secretary C Ramachandraiah will be its printer and publisher.

Though launching a magazine was on the cards for long, Naidu felt the time was right for it now in the wake of reports that there was a communication gap between him and the lower-rung cadre.

He was particularly unhappy that his polices had not been fully grasped by the local leaders.

``Though it will be a party magazine, there will be a scope for variety of views,'' explained a senior party functionary. Articles on national and international issues and developments too would find a place in it.Naidu was keen on running the fortnightly on professional lines. ``He wants to have a free and frank exchange of views and a two-way flow of communication between the leadership and the cadre,'' a senior leader said.

In tune with this thinking, Naidu held discussions with a host of senior journalists during the last few days and is understood to have sought suggestions.
