MUMBAI, Dec 30: The wall built around a corporate club at Mira-Bhayander blocking the exit of 40-odd staff was demolished on Tuesday afternoon. In an operation lasting nearly four hours the trench measuring about 40 by 20 ft dug beside the walls of the club was also levelled under police vigil, stated the Kashimira police.Green Court Club's Executive Director Ajay Saini said that the sub-divisional officer, Thane had issued an order for the removal of all obstruction to the approach road. The club was declared operational soon after the demolition, added Saini.
The wall was allegedly built by a builder Zuber Patel following a property dispute over the approach road to the club. The obstacle was raised on December 21 by over 150 persons led by Zuber's brother Tatya Patel who started building the block at 3 am, Saini said. Matters came to the head on December 21 when the local builder used his muscle power with the support of local goons and started obstructing the access road by creating a steel gate anddumped a truck load of sand (6 feet deep, 20 feet wide and 40 feet long) to disrupt the work of the club. This led to virtual hostage like situation for the club employees, it is being alleged.
According to Saini, the piece of land adjacent to the club on the same road was acquired by Tatya Patel. In an agreement dated October 21, 1992, Tatya assigned a right of way to the club through his land for a consideration of Rs 2 lakh. Through this agreement a road was constructed and maintained by the club, added Saini
