BANGALORE, Dec 30: The Karnataka Government today decided to ban sale of lottery tickets of other states from January 1.A decision to this effect was taken at the Cabinet meeting held here, Law Minister M C Nanaiah told newsmen. He said the government, under a provision contained in the Union Government's ordinance on regulation of sale of lottery tickets, decided to end the `menace' keeping in mind the interest of people, who had converted it into ``a form of gambling''.
He said the State-run lottery would continue and decision on banning it would be taken, if necessary, at a later stage.
Nanaiah said the government decided to resort to auctioning of vending rights for arrack for six months from January 1.
