Karnataka bans sale of other state lotteries

BANGALORE, Dec 30: The Karnataka Government today decided to ban sale of lottery tickets of other states from January 1.

A decision to this effect was taken at the Cabinet meeting held here, Law Minister M C Nanaiah told newsmen. He said the government, under a provision contained in the Union Government's ordinance on regulation of sale of lottery tickets, decided to end the `menace' keeping in mind the interest of people, who had converted it into ``a form of gambling''.

He said the State-run lottery would continue and decision on banning it would be taken, if necessary, at a later stage.

Nanaiah said the government decided to resort to auctioning of vending rights for arrack for six months from January 1.
