Cold kills 6 more in Rajasthan, Kashmir freezes

JAIPUR, December 30: Six more people died due to the intense cold wave, which continued to sweep Rajasthan for past few days, raising the death toll to 11 in the State.

Four people died in Jaipur last evening raising the total number of deaths in this district to seven, police said.

According to reports, bodies of two beggars were recovered from the platform of Raikabadh station in Jhodpur. One persons each was killed in Jhalawar and Sikar districts last week. Life in Churu and Jhunjhunu was completely thrown out of gear with shivering cold, gripping the districts following winter rains last evening. Life in several other districts of the State remained affected with night and day temperature hovering below normal.

Bikaner and Churu were the coldest places in the State recording only nine degress celsius, the weather office said.

Meanwhile, Shimla and the tribal belt of Himachal Pradesh received heavy snowfall last night disrupting power and water supplies and affecting telecommunication services.

The temperature dipped to minus 2.9 degree celsius in the Shimla town. Tree branches were broken at a number of places under the impact of heavy snowfall.

The snowfall resulted in road blockades in the town and upper areas of Shimla district, disrupting road traffic and movements of rails.The 320 m long Hindustan Tibet road was blocked from Shimla onwards due to heavy snowfall.

The Chamba Pathankot road was blocked to traffic due to landslide at Parel village, five km from Chamba.
