In an unanimous resolution, presidents of all 83 District Congress Committees (DCCs) in Uttar Pradesh have appealed to Sonia Gandhi to contest for the Lok Sabha from Amethi. They also urged Priyanka Gandhi to contest from Indira Gandhi's constituency, Rae Bareli. The DCCs of Sultanpur and Rae Bareli districts had already passed similar resolutions earlier.
MTNL plans low tariff cell phone
The State-owned Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Ltd (MTNL) is all set to give a run to private cellular operators for their money by launching a "low-tariff" mobile telephone service to cater to the salaried middle-class and students. MTNL is confident of launching its Rs 240 crore venture this year to initially cater to one lakh subscribers in Delhi and Mumbai.

Moi may win Kenyan polls
President Daniel Arap Moi and his Kenyan African National Union (KANU) party were poised for victory in Kenya's presidential and parliamentary polls. Seventy-three-year-old Moi has already retained his parliamentary seat polling 1.9 million votes against his former deputy and nearest challenger Mwai Kibaki's 1.6 million votes.
