CHENNAI, January 3: The Partnership Summit of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), scheduled to be inaugurated by Prime Minister I K Gujral on Jan 8, will focus on economic reforms, challenges facing the industry and the government and the economic agenda of major political parties of the country.The comprehensive agenda of the three-day conference, which will be addressed by Prime Minister of Italy Romano Prodi and President of Poland A Kwasniewski, includes issues on the role of the Government, democracy and development, and forging partnership with ASEAN.
At a press briefing on Saturday, N Kumar, president of the CII, said the basic objective of the conference, co-hosted by the Tamil Nadu Government, is to bring together partners of global trade under one roof underscoring the theme that has been built around networking of business interests.
While CEC M S Gill will speak on the general elections, Union Finance Minister P Chidambaram will present the Government's perspective on economic
reforms. BJP, Congress (I), and the United Front parties are scheduled to present their economic agenda for the country. A session on Jan.9 will witness Ministers from Egypt, Uganda, Britain and Poland discuss the implications of the restructuring of emerging economies. On the latest developments in innovation and technology, speakers from Malaysia, Germany and the US will join hands with R A Mashelkar, Director General of CSIR in the plenary session.
