  Jan Morcha will remain a non-starter: UF
The United Front has made light of Jan Morcha, the six-party front put together by former Bihar chief minister Laloo Prasad Yadav, saying it would remain a non-starter. Speaking on behalf of the UF, Communist Party of India general secretary A B Bardhan has dismissed the possibility of Laloo's morcha having a significant impact.
  World gold falls to 18 year low
London gold fixed at an 18-1/2-year low yesterday on the back of overnight losses after selling by funds betting on lower prices and by gold miners hedging future production. Where as central bank sales drove funds' short strategies during most of 1997, concerns about US deflation, underscored at the weekend by US Federal Reserve chairman Alan Greenspan, prompted the latest sales of gold, a traditional hedge against inflation.

Army widows set to don husband's uniform
Five years ago, women stormed an exclusive male bastion and donned olive green fatigues for the first time in India to become commissioned officers in the Indian Army. Now, they are at the threshold of yet another trail-blazing accomplishment. Sabina Singh and Ravinderjit Randhawa, wives of Army officers who were killed while on active service last year, are all set to don the uniforms that their husbands once wore.
Kapil threatens to quit ICC panel over Chauhan issue
Former India captain Kapil Dev has attacked the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for showing its "weakness" in handling the Rajesh Chauhan issue and threatened to resign from the International Cricket Council's (ICC) experts panel. He described as unfair the ICC decision in keeping him and his Sri Lankan counterpart Ranjan Madgulle out of the deliberations of the experts panel while deciding the fates of the two cricketers.

Di-hard fans make a beeline for ticket to Diana's graveyard
Britain's love for the late Diana, Princess of Wales, showed no sign of abating as an unprecedented rush was reported yesterday for tickets as telephone lines were jammed by people eager to make bookings to visit Althrop in North England, her final resting place. The estate will be thrown open to public from July 1 to August 30, Diana's birthday.
Films on Bosnian war top draw at festival this year
Godard and Wajda for the cineastes, a big slice of contemporary world cinema from across 30 countries and a special section titled "Sarajevo, Reflections of the War" promise to make the 29th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) more than just a sumptuous fare. While the Indian Panorama will showcase the best of Indian cinema, there will be some 80 films from around the globe for the Cinema Of the World section.
