CHANDIGARH, Jan 15: Former Punjab police chief KPS Gill today deposited Rs 2.50 lakh in a court here as compensation to Punjab IAS officer Rupan Deol Bajaj for outraging her modesty. Upholding the trial court's conviction of the former super cop, the district and session judge Amar Dutt directed Gill on January six to pay rupees two lakh as compensation to the officer in lieu of three months imprisonment slapped on him by the court of chief judicial magistrate on August 6, 1996.Gill was also directed to deposit Rs 50,000 as cost, of which Rs 25,000 was payable to BR Bajaj, husband of Rupan.
The court had released Gill on probation under supervision for three years besides asking him to abstain from intoxicants at public places and parties.Gill left for New Delhi after the amount was deposited by his counsel in the court.
The Bajaj couple who were not available here this evening for comments, had announced that they would not accept the compensation as they had not filed the case for monetary benefit
but for ``honour''.
