SYDNEY, January 15: Serena Williams fashioned a masterful comeback on a gimpy knee today against third-ranked Lindsay Davenport to reach the semifinals of the Sydney International.Williams, 16 and ranked no 96, trailed 1-6, 2-5 and faced two match points at 15-40 when she grabbed control.
Limping on her bandaged right knee after taking an injury timeout at 1-3 in second set, Williams fashioned a 1-6, 7-5, 7-5 victory by cutting down on the errors that cost her the first set.
Agassi downs Ivanisevic
MELBOURNE: Comeback-bound Andre Agassi kept up his rediscovered winning ways today, gaining his second victory in as many days at the Colonial Classic. The 27-year-old former world number one tamed the big serve of Croatian Goran Ivanisevic 6-4, 6-7 (3-7), 6-3.
Rios advances to semis
AUCKLAND: Top-seeded Marcelo Rios of Chile advanced to the Bellsouth Open Tennis semifinals today with a 5-7, 6-4, 6-1 win over defending champion Kenneth Carlsen of Denmark.
