CHANDIGARH, January 15: Hundreds of teachers of Kendriya Vidyalayas all over the country today observed `chalk-down' to force Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan to immediately implement the revised recommendations of the fifth pay commission. This marked the first phase of their protest against the authorities.According to the president of KVS Employees' Welfare Association, Didar Singh, though teachers taught in the classes, they did not use chalk. They rejected the pay scales released recently by the Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan as these are contrary to the recommendations of the fifth pay commission. The Sangathan has granted following pay scales to KV teachers: primary teachers -- Rs 4,000-Rs 6,000; TGT and miscellaneous categories -- "Rs 5,000 - Rs 8,000; and post graduate teachers Rs 6,500-Rs 10,500. The fifth pay commission has recommended Rs 5,000 -Rs 8,000 for primary teachers; Rs 5,500-Rs 9,000 for trained graduate teachers and miscellaneous category teachers and Rs 6,500-Rs 10,500 for the post
graduate teachers.
The teachers have also decided to participate in a rally at the Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan headquarters, Delhi on January 20 to register their protest.
]In a separate release, Yuvraj Karan Singh, All India Kendriya Vidyalaya Teachers Association has stated that the agitation which was to be started from January 16 against the implementation of lower pay scales than recommended by the fifth pay commission has been put off till February 28.
This decision follows an assurance given by the Commissioner of the Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan about implementing the recommended pay scales.
