Civic employees begin fast

Kharar, January 15: On a call given by the Kharar Municipal Employees Union, three of the Union leaders -- Amar Nath, Avtar Singh and Pardeep Kumar -- began a ``fast-unto-death'' today in protest against the indifferent attitude of the administration towards their long-pending demands. The municipal employees also decided to continue their indefinite strike which entered its eight day. Following the strike by the Municipal employees, the sanitary arrangements in the township were badly affected while there was also a perceptible effect on the working of the Municipal office.

The agitating employees staged a protest dharna in front of the local MC office and raised slogans against the municipal authorities.

Among their demands are processing of the pending pension cases of the retired employees, housing colony and regularisation of the daily wage municipal employees.

Menwhile, municipal councillor of the Council has asked the state government to intervene in the matter and fulfil the genuine demands of the municipal employees so as to end the dead-lock. He visited the dharna site today and assured them of his support and co-operation.

Bar association elections

Ashok Kumar Kabuli and Navdeep Singh Bitta have been elected president and general secretary, respectively, of the Kharar Bar Association during the annual elections of the association.
