  Tendulkar-phobia grips Pakistan
The PCB chief will obviously have a significant message from home, which might prod the Pakistanis to higher performance levels. And, for a change, it was nice to hear their coach Haroon Rashid borrow Madan Lal's lines while talking about the second final tomorrow: ``We have to start clicking now.'' But there seemed to be much more in Rashid's second statement, when he called for a ``collective effort.'' Anyway, as Rashid quipped, nothing counts once Tendulkar gets going.
World outraged as four Chinese swimmers test positive
China's swimming programme suffered further shame yesterday when four members of the World Championship team were exposed as testing positive to a banned drug. Three females, Wang Luna, Cai Huijue and Zhang Yi and male Wang Wei tested positive to triamterene, a diuretic, and were suspended from the championships pending results of their second, or B, tests.

Paul strangles Lanka
Leg-spinner Paul Strang captured four Sri Lanka wickets for 77 to give Zimbabwe the edge in the second Test yesterday. Strang played the key role as Sri Lanka were bowled out for 225 in their first innings -- 26 behind -- on the second day at the Singhalese Sports Club Ground.
Serena shocks Davenport
Serena Williams fashioned a masterful comeback on a gimpy knee yesterday against third-ranked Lindsay Davenport to reach the semifinals of the Sydney International. Williams, 16 and ranked no 96, trailed 1-6, 2-5 and faced two match points at 15-40 when she grabbed control.

Australian Open wild card for Paes, Nirupama
India has bagged both wild cards reserved for Asian players in this year's Australian Open Tennis Championship with Leander Paes and Nirupama Vaidyanathan earning them. The 25-year-old Paes retains the distinction he earned last year when the scheme was introduced by the organisers of the season-opening Grand Slam at Flinders Park, Melbourne as the highest ranked Asian.
Smooth sailing for Indian GMs
Grandmasters Oleg Korneev and S Savchenko joined overnight leader GM Tony Miles of England with six points each after the seventh round of the Anibal Open International Chess Championship in Linares yesterday. Grandmasters Dibyendu Barua and Pravin Thipsay won their games alongwith former National "A" champion IM P Konguvel and IM Sekhar Sahu with IM's K Murugan and DV Prasad posted fighting draws.
