Maharashtra champs

PUNE: Maharashtra boys and girls claimed the overall team title in the 43rd National School tennis championship that concluded here today.

Results: Team championships (boys under-17): Delhi bt Maharashtra 2-0 (Parantap Chaturvedi bt Alok Bhide 6-7 (6-8) 6-3, 6-4; Anil Goswami bt Abhishek Tamhane 6-3, 6-1).

Under-14 singles: Vikrant Sane (Mah) bt V Vignesh (Guj) 6-7 (7-9) 6-3 6-3.

Under-17 girls singles: Sonal Phadke (Mah) bt Lisa Pereira (Mah) 6-2 6-3.

Under-14 singles: Noopur Desai (Mah) bt Isha Lakhani (Mah) 7-6 (7-1) 4-6 7-5. Under-19 boys' singles: Akshay Jagdale (Mah) bt Sajid Loddi (Del) 6-3, 5-1 conceded.

Karnataka win

BANGALORE: Karnataka men and women won the 13th All-India Telecom volleyball championships which concluded here today.

In the final, Karnataka men thrashed defending champions Bihar 3-0 (15-5, 15-10 and 15-11).

A-20 triumph

CALCUTTA: A-20, comprising Col G J Singh, Col R Sharma, Major P J Singh and Col M Sabharwal won the Royal Challenge Invitation Golf Cup defeating A-15 consisting Harmeet Sahney, Barun Agarwal, H S Bindra and Rishi Kshettry by 166 points at the Royal Calcutta Golf Club here today.

In the Division Section, Division A was won by Amit Daga, Govind Atwal, Bharat Lal and Mahesh Sabharwal of team A-07 who made it on the basis of the last round.
