5 surrender in masjid clash

Five persons have surrendered before the L T Marg police for their involvement in the Jama Masjid clash between the Barelvi and Deobandi Muslims at Crawford Market on January 18.

The five include Sayed Mazhar Ali Hussein (38), Anis Zakaria Palwalla (37), Javed Mohammad Kharwalla (35), Akhil Dawood Mansoor (35) and Farooque Suleiman Lakdawala (32). The metropolitan magistrate of the holiday court remanded them to custody till February 2. Police said that with these men surrendering, all those persons wanted in connection with the case are in custody.

Konkan Rly commissioned

Through passenger traffic on the Mangalore-Roha section of the Konkan Railway will be commissioned on January 26, with the completion of a 760-km-long stretch crossing Karnataka, Goa and Maharashtra. Accordingly, the Kurla-Ratnagiri passenger train and the CST-Samantwadi Express will be extended upto Madgaon in Goa on the Republic Day. From March 1, the Netravati Express will be diverted on the Konkan Railway routes and the weekly Hazrat Nizamuddin will be diverted to Konkan Railway via Madgaon from April 1.
