Forester-Kashmir win Scindia Gold Cup

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
NEW DELHI, January 25: Roddy Williams slammed in five goals to lead Forester-Kashmir to 7-4 win over Equisport in the final of the Essar Cellphone Jiwaji Rao Scindia of Gwalior Gold Cup -- a 12-goal golf tournament -- at the Jaipur Polo Ground here today. Both the teams combined well in the fast, absorbing contest to thrill a huge gathering.

Equisport took 2-1 lead at the end of the first chukker, but Forester-Kashmir hit back in the second to tie the scores at 3-3.

Forester-Kashmir took charge in the third chukker as Equisport seemed to lose their rhythm. The winners knocked in three goals in that chukker to virtually take the match away from Equisport.

Equisport tried hard to come back in the fourth and final chukker but Forester-Kashmir held strong emerging 7-4 winners.

Roddy Williams was the hero of the Forester-Kashmir triumph scoring five goals. Carlos Urrea and Ajit Singh were the other scorers for the winners. Pablo Jauretche scored three goals and Adhiraj Singh one for Equisport.

Earlier, in an exhibition match, Vikram Cement and Park Royal Hotel drew 4-4. Although Park Royale Hotel was leading 4-1 at half time, Vikram Cement hit back with two goals in the third and one goal in the fourth chukker.

The final team: Forester Kashmir: Ajit Singh (0), Rajesh Sehgal (+1), Roddy Williams (+5), Carlos Urrea (+6); Equisport: Digvijay Singh (+1), Adhiraj Singh (+2), Angad Kalaan (+3), Pablo Jauretche (+6).

After a day's rest, the 14-goal Sir Pratap Singh Cup will start at the Jaipur polo ground, the final of which will be held on January 31. It will be followed by the Gen Thimayya Cup from February 11, Rao Raja Hanut Singh Cup (open with handicap) during February 3-11, SMS Gold Vase (8 goals) from February 12 to 15 and the Northern India Open from February 17 to 22.
