2,000 take part in Run-for-Fun

CHANDIGARH, January 25: The "Run-for-Fun" organised by the Headquarters Western Command at various military stations drew an encouraging response today with a large number of officers, other ranks, ladies and children putting on their running shoes.

At Chandimandir, the run was flagged off from Raina Stadium by the General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Western Command, Lt Gen H B Kala. About 2,000 participants competed for two prizes in various groups. The Chief of Staff, Western Command, Lt. Gen. H R S Mann also ran alongside officers and men.

The run was followed by a prize distribution function and then by all officers, JCOs, other ranks and families having breakfast together at the stadium.

The results are:Men above 50 years: Sub. Maj R.K. Singh (325 Light AD) and Brig. Asil Singh (Western Command).

Men 40 to 50 years: Sub. Balkan Singh (268 Engrs) and Nb Sub. R.K. Singh (322 AD).

Men under 40 years: Nk Kulbhushan Singh (322 AD) and Nk A.K. Chatterjee (322 AD).

Boys below 15 years: Vimlesh and Maninder Singh.

Ladies above 30 years: Thumnon and Laxmi Devi.

Ladies 16 to 30 years: Shalini and Rajendra Kaur.

Girls below 15 years: Shweta and Shilpi.

Ladies with toddlers: Sureshta Rana and Kimkim.

Meanwhile, at Ambala Cantonment, the run was flagged off from the Kharga Stadium by the General Officer Commanding, No.2 Corps, Lt Gen S S Mehta. A large number of officers and troops from various units as well as ladies and children joined the event which was followed by bara khana.

Following are the results: Ladies over 30 years - Rohini and Lekha. Ladies between 18 and 30 years - Saritha, Mulitha and Kamlesh. Girls 10-18 years - Kusum, Sonika and Sushma. Girls below 10 years - Jayoti, Annuparna and Pritham.

Boys below 14 years - Virender Singh, Shebhan Chand Joshi and Amit Kumar. Boys above 14 years - Manoj, Sunil Kumar and Punit. Men 35 years and below - Rfn. Dalbir Singh, Hav. Sree Kumar and Nk S. John. Men above 35 years - Col Mohan Lal, Nk N.C. Behra and Hav. Om Prakash.
