Former Kerala CM denies opposing Chacko

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, January 29: Senior congress leader K Karunakaran today denied that he had opposed P C Chacko, a member of the dissolved Lok Sabha from Mukundapuram, being re-nominated for contesting the coming elections in Kerala. Talking to reporters on his return from Delhi, where the issue of Chacko's re-nomination was discussed with central leaders, Karunakaran said it was unfortunate that reports had appeared in the press to the effect that he had strongly argued against Chacko being given party ticket again. Karunakaran said he had not opposed Chacko's candidature as such, but had only made an alternative proposal that in Mukundapuram a candidate belonging to the Catholic community would be ideal. "Mukundapuram has a large concentration of Catholics and there has been demands for considering a Catholic as the Congress candidate."
