"Think of Vajpayee PM, and then vote"
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Atal Behari Vajpayee on Saturday asked voters to think of the next Prime Minister when they exercise their franchise. At a rally at the Nizam College Grounds in Hyderabad, he exclaimed that the Congress was corrupt and the United Front was fast disintegrating. As such the people should give him the numbers to become the next Prime Minister.

Sonia's apology seen as move to divide Sikh votes
The shift in the Congress stance on the tragic events of the eighties concerning the Sikh community is being interpreted by observers as a determined move by the party to woo Sikhs outside Punjab in view of the Lok Sabha elections. The first manifestation for the same came from Sonia Gandhi at a public meeting in Chandigarh and also by the denial of a ticket to H K L Bhagat and others whose names have been associated with the violence against Sikhs.

Kalyan plays hide-'n'-seek with Vajpayee
The two BJP stalwarts, Prime Ministerial candidate Atal Behari Vajpayee and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Kalyan Singh, do not pull along well. This is evident from the fact that Kalyan was deliberately absent from Vajpayee's election campaign which kicked off in the State on January 22, 1998.

JD minister sees bi-polar fight in Karnataka
Rural Development Minister M P Prakash has said that the fight in the Lok Sabha election in Karnataka is between the Janata Dal and the Congress, and that the Dal would wrest the Bellary seat from the Congress. Also, Prakash dismissed the notion that votes would be polarised on caste.
