NEW DELHI, Feb 2: The president of the Bharatiya Kisan Kamgar Party Ajit Singh claimed today that the arrival of Sonia Gandhi on the political scene has halted the so-called march of the BJP to power.Addressing a press conference convened to release his party's election manifesto, Singh said that there would be a Congress-led coalition at the Centre after the elections.
Singh, who has entered into a seat adjustment arrangement with the Congress for the elections chose to devote considerable portion of his press conference to the BJP and its internal politics.
He said that there was no truth in the propaganda that he was trying to seek an alliance with the BJP. He said that there was no talk at any level with the BJP on the issue.
He said according to his assessment Advani, who had proposed Vajpayee as the prime ministerial candidate after the elections ``will not let have that post.'' After all, he said, Advani was not contesting the polls to remain an ordinary member in Parliament.
Singh said thatall the talk of the BJP and its allies was bogus. After the elections, the BJP will be forced to remain alone as had happened during the thirteen-day long BJP government at the centre, he asserted.
He sounded optimistic of his victory saying that the BJP candidate Som Pal at Bhagpat will not be able to make any dent in the constituency.
Singh said that his party would be contesting about forty Lok Sabha seats, about half of them will be in Uttar Pradesh.
He said that the BKKP seat sharing adjustment with the Congress was confined to Uttar Pradesh alone and that the party would be contesting elections in other states independent of this adjustment.
