Tendulkar, Ganguly in World XIMUMBAI: Sachin Tendulkar and Saurav Ganguly have been invited to play for the World XI against the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) XI in a charity match to be held in memory of Lady Diana at Lord's on July 18.Tendulkar confirmed the news of having received an invitation to play in the match along with Ganguly. ``Yes, I intend to go after talking to the BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India).''
Raju blessed with a son
HYDERABAD: Test left-arm spinner Venkatapathy Raju was blessed with a son here on Sunday. A delighted Raju hoped that his son would bring him luck to get back into the Indian team. Meanwhile, Raju left for Jamshedpur today alongwith Hyderabad team for the Ranji Trophy super-league against Bihar which begins on February 4.
GM tourney
KOZHIKODE: The All India Chess Federation (AICF) is to hold a Grandmaster tournament from March 3-17 at Kozhikode to commemorate India's golden jubilee of Independence.
Thetournament would have 14 players in fray and would give ample opportunity for Abhijit Kunte and DV Prasad, who are striving to get their required GM norm and the title.
National rowing
CALCUTTA: The Junior National Rowing Championships will be conducted by Calcutta's Lake Club from February 5-7. The event, first of a national stature in over 10 years, will have participants in both the girls and boys categories in the age group of under-18. Although only Tamil Nadu Rowing Association, besides hosts West Bengal are sending their participants in the girls' events, as many as six teams will vie for honours in the boys' events.
Corps of Engineers Rowing Association (CERA), Andhra Pradesh Rowing Association (APRA), Maharashtra rowing Association (MAH), Manipur Rowing Association (MARA), Tamil Nadu Amateur Rowing Association (TARA) and West Bengal Rowing Association (WBRA) are the teams in fray. The competitions will be held in the coxed fours, coxwainless pairs and single scull events.
