HYDERABAD, February 2: Justice Umesh Chandra Banerjee was on Sunday sworn in as the chief justice of the Andhra Pradesh High Court. Governor C Rangarajan administered the oath of office at an impressive ceremony at Raj Bhavan here.Besides several judges of the High Court, Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, Chief Secretary to the Government K Madhava Rao, Home Minister A Madhava Reddy, Revenue Minister T Devender Goud and CLP leader P Janardhan Reddy, were present at the function. Justice Banerjee graduated from Scottish Church college in Calcutta and pursued higher bar courses in England. He joined Calcutta Bar as a barrister in 1965 and was elevated to the Bench in 1984. Apart from being the presiding judge of the Environment Bench set up by the Calcutta HC following the orders of Supreme Court, he was also the presiding judge of the Principal Appellate Court (original side) in the Calcutta high court.
