Kesri decided denial of ticket to Rao: Azad

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
HYDERABAD, Feb 9: CWC member Ghulam Nabi Azad made it clear on Sunday that the denial of party ticket to P V Narasimha Rao was solely the individual decision of AICC chief Sitaram Kesri.Seeking to justify the party's treatment to Rao, the CWC member, who is also the national campaign panel convener, told media persons here that the Congress had the tradition of party presidents taking decisions unilaterally on certain matters. At the same time he blamed Rao too for not taking into confidence the members of the Union cabinet on the issue of demolition of the Babri Masjid.

``Being a senior cabinet member from the minority community, even I too was not consulted on the matter,'' Azad said.He parried questions when asked why he did not protest on both the occasions. ``These are all the things of past,'' he replied avoiding specific replies. He did not agree with the view that a host of apologies tendered by the Congress amounted to admitting guilty.Claiming that there was a wave across the country in favour ofthe Congress and the party on its own would form a government at the centre, Azad did not categorically state that Sonia would be the prime ministerial candidate.
