German federation lifts ban

FRANKFURT: The Germany Swimming Federation has lifted its boycott of the World Cup competition in Beijing February 25-26.

The Federation said it would sit out the event after a doping scandal involving Chinese swimmers at the World Championship in Perth, Australia last month. Federation president Ruediger Tretow announced the reversal after meeting with officials from swimming's international governing body FINA.

Graf cancels Paris comeback

BONN: Former world number one Steffi Graf has again postponed plans to return to competitive tennis and will not play at this week's Paris Open, the German news agency Sid said today.

The agency, quoting WTA officials in Paris, said she would not be able to participate because of problems with her injured knee.

Organisers in Paris said they were waiting for confirmation from the WTA that Graf would not play but said it was 95 percent certain she would pull out.
