Rider killed, as truck rams mobike

 
EXPRESS NEWS SERVICEPUNE, February 9: Pramod Mahadeo Khaire, a First Year student of an engineering course residing at Chinchwad, was killed while his friend Kalpesh Muddedar was injured in a mishap in Indrayani Nagar of Pimpri last afternoon.

Khaire (18), was riding on the Telco Road when a truck rammed into his motorcycle. Khaire was flung up against a Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Transport (PCMT) bus by the impact, and was killed on the spot. His pillion rider Kalpesh Muddedar, however, escaped with some injuries, police said.Meanwhile, the truck driver Vasudeo Ramayya (37) from Karnataka has been arrested by the Bhosari police.

Conman arrested: PRAKASH Prabhakar Kulkarni, a 26-year-old resident of Solapur who allegedly used to dupe commuters after winning their confidence during long distance travels, was today arrested by the Pune Railway Police.Prakash was apprehended up by a police team comprising of PSI Dilip Raut, Head Constable Ramdas Kandge and constable Pravin Pawar who got suspicious of Prakashwhile he was loitering at the Pune Railway Station.

During interrogations, police said, he admitted that he had duped Nigdi resident Kamlesh Arvind Malve and Prashant Kulkarni of Swargate.

According to the police, Prakash had relieved Kamlesh of his suitcase containing cash and other valuables totally worth Rs 5,560 after promising to provide him a job while both of them were aboard a Mumbai-bound train on January 29. Kamlesh had lodged a complaint with the Pune Railway Police in this connection.

Earlier, Prakash had allegedly duped Prashant Kulkarni while both were travelling in a State Transport bus, the police said.

Abductors arrested:

Four residents of Daund town were yesterday ARRESTED by the Baramati police on charges of abducting a landlord and an estate agent from Baramati and extorting them to the tune of Rs 90,000.Rs 36,714 in cash has been recovered from Sanjay Vasant Navagire, Mohammed Ahudi Osman, Shankar Gopal Singh Rajput and Sadik alias Yakub, who had whisked away Baramatilandlord Popatlal Gandhi and estate agent Viju Vyankate from Baramati to Bhum village in Osmanabad district in a Maruti car on February 4, police said.

The quadruple had approached Vyankate under the garb of purchasing land. Vyankate, in turn, had introduced them to Gandhi who wanted to sell off his land, they added. The alleged abductors had asked Gandhi and Vyankate to accompany them on February 4 night under the garb of seeing the land owned by Gandhi.
