Carl Hooper played one of the greatest innings of his career today to lift the West Indies to a gripping three-wicket victory over England in the second Test. Hooper's unbeaten 94 earned him the man-of-the-match award.

It had been expected that top seeds P Gopi Chand and Aparna Popat will emerge champions at the 62nd Bristol Senior National Badminton championships. 19-year-old Abhinn Shyam Gupta from Air-India however came close to taking the game away from Gopi Chand.
Slater, Wilson on India-bound Australian team
Opening batsman Michael Slater was recalled to the Australian cricket squad yesterday for their upcoming three-Test tour of India. Slater replaced left-hander Matthew Elliott in one of the two changes from the team that drew with South Africa in the third and final Test in Adelaide last week.

Paes hit by tournament cancellation
Leander Paes has plunged to his lowest rankings in singles in about two years within the first six weeks of 1998, dropping 85 points from last year. He lost 20 after his first round exit from the Australian Open.
