Here's a rendezvous with the welcome party...

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
They smile sweetly and answer every query with alacrity and attention. Standing behind counters in impeccable silk saris, the pretty receptionist is a stereotype associated with the glitz and glamour of a five-star hotel. The best-looking girls are spotted in five-star hotel foyers, lending their attractive presence to the plush ambience. Since the past few years, however, male receptionists have also stormed the predominantly female bastion. Dapper and personable in neat and dark suits, they look equally at home with the job.

Since receptionists come directly in contact with the guests, their role is one of charming hosts, ensuring that the visitors feel welcome in their temporary abode. And this is not such an easy task. Shouldering the burdens of `charm and hospitality' are big responsibilities. Especially so since forming part of the reception counter is usually the first assignment for inexperienced hotel management diploma graduates. First impressions could be last impressions!

In Pune, thefive-stars and four-stars have their fair share of young ladies and gentlemen, in the guise of guiding spirits. Holiday Inn, Hotel Aurora Towers, The Pride Hotel, Hotel Blue Diamond...the list of hotels is modest but hotel management aspirants many.
