MUMBAI, FEBRUARY 10: Congress candidate from Mumbai North east, Gurudas Kamat, in a press conference today charged the Bharatiya Janata Party's Pramod Mahajan with fraud vis-a-vis his electoral propaganda for the Lok Sabha election. Mahajan is the sitting MP from North East, having won the seat in 1996. Kamat accused, "While Mahajan did not visit his constituency even once until the mid-term polls became apparent, he has now laid claim to all the ongoing projects in the constituency which were pursued by me."Among these, he said, were the Bombay Urban Transport Project - II, the piped gas project, the Kurla Terminus and projects relating to housing, pollution, public distribution system and others. Kamat then circulated his correspondence with various Prime Ministers and Union Ministers on the subjects and their responses and the dates of project implementation. Thus pointing out that the project took off long before Mahajan became an MP. Kamat said that a rationing officer in the constituency wasentrusted with the task of distributing Mahajan's calenders, performance reports and other election material from the office premises. He said, he had directly faxed a complaint letter to the CEC M S Gill over the misuse of official machinery by a man whose brother-in-law was Minister for Home.
