  BJP, Trinamul break away in Midnapore
Although the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Trinamul Congress have joined forces in the West Bengal, in the Midnapore Lok Sabha constituency they will pit candidates against each other. A last-minute hitch between the two poll partners over the Midnapore seat seems to have embittered the ``political friends'' who joined hands to fight ``their common enemy, the CPI(M)'', at the hustings.
  BJP's TN pact an aberration: Govindacharya
BJP general secretary K N Govindacharya on Monday described AS an ``aberration'' the party's poll alliance with the AIADMK in Tamil Nadu. He said BJP had two aberrations - the unwanted induction in Uttar Pradesh Cabinet and poll alliance with Jayalalitha led AIADMK in Tamil Nadu.

Munde offers his post to RPI
Deputy Chief Minister Gopinath Munde on Monday offered to relinquish his post and give it to the Republican Party of India (RPI) leaders if they supported the Bharatiya Janata Party-Shiv Sena alliance in the Lok Sabha election. The offer came during the election meeting held for the Baramati constituency at the temple town of Morgaon.
Kalmadi our trump card, says Munde
Asserting that no differences exist between the BJP-Shiv Sena and the Rashtriya Svayamsevak Sangh (RSS) over the issue of supporting Suresh Kalmadi from the Pune Lok Sabha constituency, Deputy Chief Minister Gopinath Munde on Monday said that the saffron alliance was expecting the former MP to play a "much larger role" in helping BJP gain power at the Centre.

Bring back Quattrocchi: Vajpayee
Taking the Bofors issue to the Congress camp, the BJP has demanded that Italian businessman Ottavio Quattrocchi be brought to India and interrogated to pursue the investigations into the gun deal pay-off case. It is asserted by the BJP leader that the Congress withdrew support to the Gujral Government because it was scared that the names of the beneficaries of the payoffs would be disclosed.
Opinion polls matter: study
Nearly 50% of the voters are influenced by opinion polls while casting their franchise. This was the conclusion arrived at in a survey conducted by the Press Council of India (PCI) through a management consultants company to find out to what extent that pre-poll surveys influence the voters in their decision to votes.
